I thought it was just me! I have a PowerCentre 132 and my cd drive stopped working some months ago. I tried various drivers and scsi mounters to no avail and thought it had just died, but I've recently upgraded to system 9 (wow) and I used an external scsi cd drive to do it. The PowerCentre will quite happily boot up from a system cd but it won't even look at anything else. I've tried disconnecting the internal cd and runnning the external at the same scsi address but it just won't see non bootable cd's. Both the cd drives are recognised by scsi probe, drive setup and fwb mounter, but nothing I can do will make ordinary cd's mount. It's really annoying and I can't think my way out of this one. I am going to buy a G4 soon, but I would like to conquer this problem jsut so it doesn't beat me. Doerner" <Doerner@kagi.com> To: Subject: [*] CDFinder 2.8.1 CDFinder is a very fast and powerful tool to create catalog files of your hard disks, floppies, ZIP's and anything else that spins. It has a great user interface and very useful search functions. CDFinder supports drag&drop and requires at least a 68020 or PowerPC CPU. While System 7 is required, CDFinder is also fully compatible to MacOS 9. A special feature is the multi-lingual user interface (German/French/English/Italian/Swedish/Chinese). http://www.cdfinder.de New features in CDFinder 2.8.1: - Fixed a bug that could cause CDFinder not to find the catalog folder. Instead CDFinder claimed that there were no files in the catalog folder. - Fixed a crashing bug in the Find window on some PowerPC machines with MacOS 8.1. - The main window allows the change of a name directly inside it! - Added AppleScript support to get the infos of the Found Items. - In the main catalog window, CDFinder will now use a different sort method. CDFinder will now also do a secondary sort by name if the main sort is by any other value. - CDFinder now has a new application and also a new document icon! You may need to rebuild your desktop file to see it. Contact: Norbert M. Supports storing of Pascal&C style strings, STL strings and vector<char>. All strings are kept in single storage buffer, tso even very large number of items will not cause memory management overhead. Occupies StringLen[0] + ... StringLen[n - 1] + 2*n*sizeof(size_t), in other words, CRefDynGenStrArray is really space efficient. Keeps additional reference table of real indexes. Thus, many functions will involve only operations with reference table. It provides many of the essential features of commercial utilities like SuperBoomerang, Action Files, and Directory Assistance, but without the infrequently used extras that take their toll in compatibility, memory, and CPU usage. In addition, Default Folder fully supports the Navigation Services Open and Save dialogs available in Mac OS 8.5 and higher, allowing you to access your recently used and favorite folders everywhere. Default Folder's time-saving Open and Save dialog enhancements allow you to: - Set up a default folder for any or all applications. - Switch among recently used folders from a pop-up menu. - Easily navigate to your favorite folders. - Share common sets of recent and favorite folders between all Open and Save dialogs, including Navigation Services dialogs. - Click on a Finder window to list its contents in an Open or Save dialog. - See available disk space and switch between disks from a pop-up menu. - Open the folder shown in an Open or Save dialog in the Finder. - Create folders, get information (including changing name, type, and creator), and move items to the Trash from within file dialogs. - "Rebound" back to the last file you used. - Make "Replace" the default option instead of "Cancel" when saving a file with the same name as an existing file. Default Folder will operate on any Macintosh running System 7 or higher, including Mac OS 9.0.4, and is $25 shareware. A complete description, details, and screen snapshots can be found at: <http://www.stclairsoft.com/DefaultFolder/index.html> Version 3.0.6 includes a fix for a bug that could cause Default Folder's preference file to become corrupted, a new popup menu for quick access to recent and favorite folder in the Finder, fixes for memory leaks in Navigation Services dialogs, and correction of a problem that could cause "click on greyed-out filenames" to fail in Navigation Services dialogs. Features include the opportunity to do various inflection exercises, and translation exercises in both directions; to record and play sound for single words; to do exercises based on sound or pictures; and to play various word-games. The program keeps a record of exercises, and identifies the words that the student has difficulty with. Along with the program, you need a module for the target language concerned. The program can also be used as an authoring tool to write your own modules of inflected words for any language. A built-in 'inflection-generator' simplifies the addition of these words. A 'Find' feature allows the modules to be used as bilingual dictionaries. Ready-made modules are already available for certain languages.
