Subject: [*] AliasCrony 2.1.1; Alias management.
AliasCrony is the ultimate alias manager. It has several features:
- Since aliases of applications lose the capability to have files dropped
on, when the original is on a different volume, AliasCrony can create
SuperAlias, a new alias kind, having drag capability always active.
- It can create aliases or SuperAliases and put them into specific
predefined folders, when you're using the Drag&Drop mode. From its menus,
instead, you can select the destination folders by using a speedy way.
- It can update aliases (also as SuperAliases) on the fly or else through
its menus.
- It can add, to aliases, some useful custom icon, freeing a bit of space
on desktop (as before: you can add the custom icon on the fly or else by
using the proper menu).
-You may configure any action of above through preferences and change them
with one keystroke before creating aliases or SuperAliases .
- It can scan all on-line volumes to create lists of:
a) attached aliases,
b) unattached aliases,
c) aliases and originals on different volumes.
-It can scan also individual folders-disks.
The created lists return useful infos about the aliases found, moreover,
from these lists, AliasCrony can do several actions:
a) retrieves and shows aliases and originals.
b) links/updates/deletes/moves aliases.
c) shows the Finder's Info window, about aliases and originals.
d) updates aliases of applications to SuperAliases.
e) trashs the whole aliases list.
AliasCrony is Internet Config aware, Appearance Savvy and requires at least
System Seven to run.

New since version 2.1.0
Removed a bug causing, sometimes on 68K, the unexpected closing of
AliasCrony. Replaced, on 68k code, SpinCursor with WatchCursor to avoid
trouble with the most recent development libraries for 68k, who support
badly this feature. Better support of Appearance Manager in ModalDialog
filters. New trial time term. Adresses update. Minor changes.

2) Two previous versions (2.0 & 2.0.1) have been recently posted. This
version (2.0.2) fixes a bug that caused out-of-memory problems.
Data Rescue is a tool for recovering lost Macintosh volumes. It recovers
files and folders
from crashed hard disks, floppy disks, or removable cartridges. Recovered
data are saved to
another medium, leaving the original disk untouched.
The main interest in Data Rescue is that the strategy for finding lost
files is original,
different from the strategies used by other tools like 'Norton Utilities'.
Not only will it
find your data in situations where the other tools fail, but it will
recover them in a much
better condition, restoring icons, dates and even folder hierarchy.
The shareware fee for Data Rescue is $39. Until you register your copy with
a personnal code,
you can only recover 1 file per session. This allows you to test Data
Rescue and check that it helps you in your particular situation.
Works on all Macs, needs System 7 or better. Compatible with MacOS 8 and HFS+.
Can be distributed freely for non-profit purposes in the form of this archive.

Subject: [*] Hyper-Stack Player Pro 2.4.1-68k - submission
Hyper-Stack Player Pro 2.4.1-68k Copr. 1995-96, 98 Bruce A. Pokras
Hyper-Stack Player Pro ("HSP Pro") is a player for HyperCard stacks which
provides the functionality of all versions of Apple's HyperCard Player up
to and including the lastest version, 2.4.1. Plus, HSP Pro has lots of
features not found in Apple's Player. Available separately for 680x0 Macs
(68k version) and for Power Macs (PPC version).
This 2.4.1 upgrade of HSP Pro is to maintain compatability with Apple's
Summer, 1998 release of HyperCard 2.4.1. No new features have been added to
HSP Pro, itself.
***A special feature of HSP Pro is its built-in ability to view and edit
the scripts which make HyperCard stacks work, and to view and edit the
contents of locked and/or hidden fields.***
HSP Pro provides many features which Apple's player does not:
- create buttons which you can link to your favorite stacks (size, color
and style are customizable. You can even add a monochrome icon of your
choice);
- use the "Print Stack..." and "Print Field..." menu commands of the
"File" menu (these are ordinarily disabled in Apple's Player);
- view and edit the contents of fields (even locked and hidden ones);
- view and edit the scripts which make HyperCard stacks work;
- add buttons to other stacks to give them added features;
- other features over previous versions of HSP are described in an "HSP
Pro Version History" file which is included. Some features require a
registration code for activation.
HSP Pro provides a good way for school computer labs to provide access to
their HyperCard stacks. A password protection scheme prevents the students
from making any unauthorized changes.
Shareware $10/Mac; Site licenses $50/site (e.g., school computer labs or a
single corporate location). Free upgrade for registrants of previous
versions. See the included "HSP Upgrading" file).
HSP Pro can be registered world-wide through the Kagi Shareware service by
credit card online (link available at my web site at

encrypted credit card info), fax or snail-mail. Kagi also accepts checks

MacTypingTutor4.5 is for Power Macintosh only; Macintosh users with older
machines should download version MacTypingTutor4.3 or earlier
MacTypingTutor4.5 takes advantage of the latest Apple System Software
improvements for Power Macintoshes.
There are ten good reasons to use Mac typing tutor to learn fast and
accurate typing: It's QUICK and EASY to operate. It's MODULAR (separate
work areas, each teaching different typing skills; each reinforcing the
others). It remembers words you mistype. It shows error reports, lets you
set speed goals, and suggests when you should raise or lower goals. You can
keep and print records so you see progress. The practice materials contain
typing tips. It's VERSATILE, as you work on your typing, your spelling and
vocabulary also improve. It's INEXPENSIVE. MacTypingTutor let's you
hide/show typing, hide/show screen-keyboard, hide/show feedback reports.
You can adjust difficulty level from very easy to hard (this is also a good
feature for children). Program automatically remembers your
work-preferences from session to session.
MacTypingTutor comes in the regular version, a special keyboard version

Subject: [*] MacTypingTutor4.5 Dvorak
MacTypingTutor4.5 Dvorak is for Power Macintosh only; Macintosh users with
older machines should download version MacTypingTutor4.3 or earlier
MacTypingTutor4.5 takes advantage of the latest Apple System Software
improvements for Power Macintoshes. Dvorak is a typing system designed to
let you type faster and more accurately.
(Dvorak), a French version, an English version with a French
keyboard-layout, and one-handed versions (left or right).

Subject: [*] MacZip 1.00
I have just finished beta 5 of MacZip.
This is the new port of the fine Info-Zip's Zip and Unzip.
The GUI is very simple. It was not my intension to make a fullblown GUI,
however I think it's comfortable enough to use it as regular tool.
This port supports also Apple-event.So you can install it in your
WWW-Browser as a helper-app.
Binaries/Sources can be also found at:
http://www.sitec.net/maczip/download/
MacZip100b5C.hqx -> crypt version
MacZip100b5NC.hqx -> non crypt version
I think I'm very close to a final release of MacZip 1.00.
If you have any problems/questions don't hesitate
and send a email to me.
Most important / features are:
The complete set of macintosh finder-info is stored:
FXinfo, Mac-Pathname, file-dates and Finder-Comments
are now stored in the extra-field. Extra-field layout is
changed accordingly. Unzip uses now the filename stored in the
extra-field when unzipping.
Crypt-code added. It's now possible to encrypt/decrypt archives.
It's now possible to stop the run of Zip/Unzip with the well
known shortcut [Command] + [.]
System requirements:
* System 7
* any Macintosh

Subject: [*] NewsTicker
What does NewsTicker do?
First and foremost, NewsTicker is a PowerPC only application. If the need
truly arises, I might consider making a 68K version too.
NewsTicker is a utility for displaying the headlines from different web
sites. It puts up a floating windoid where the headlines scroll by.
Double-clicking a headline will open your browser to show the full story.
It can also track web pages, showing when they have changed.
NewsTicker uses a built-in parsing engine, which describes the format of
web pages, and "teaches" NewsTicker which parts of the incoming HTML page
are the headlines.
Since the format of web pages may change, NewsTicker sometimes displays
more information than you might want (or even less than what you expect),
but it's still much better than having to launch your browser every time
you want the news headlines...
Using NewsTicker?
Basically, launch it, and turn on the Balloon Help for any un-clear
option. Email me with your questions or suggestions.
Please note that holding down the Control key while clicking in the
NewsTicker window provides access to the NewsTicker window Contextual
Menu.
Requirements
* Mac OS 7.5.1 or better.
* Open Transport 1.1 or better.
* InternetConfig 1.2 or better (works better with Internet Config 2.0)
Required if your network is behind a firewall/proxy server.
In such a case, configure Internet Config properly, and NewsTicker will
do the rest.
Shareware
Use NewsTicker for no longer than 14 days, then please register it or
trash it.
If you use register NewsTicker and email me with "I Use NewsTicker" in
the subject of the email, I'll inform you of new versions of NewsTicker.
Please email me bugs, compatability problems or suggestions.
Registering NewsTicker entitles you to receive new versions, up to and
including the next full version.
Mac OS 7.5 and better, I believe).

Subject: [*] Odd Jobs 1.2 - powerful file processing tasks
Odd Jobs is a collection of powerful file processing tasks.
(It's named after Steve's not so well-known twin brother. :-))
Odd Jobs is simple to use: just drop one or more files/folders/disks
onto a suitable "joblet" or a conveniently located alias. A number of
useful joblets are included in the distribution:
Alpha Doc - converts given text files to Alpha documents
BBEdit Doc - converts given text files to BBEdit documents
Count Items - counts files/aliases/folders
Delete 4bit Icons - deletes 16-color custom icons from files
Delete 68K Code - deletes 680x0 code from fat applications
Delete Res Fork - deletes the resource fork from text files
EPSF <-> TEXT - changes an EPSF file to TEXT and vice versa
Mac Text - converts Unix/DOS text files to Mac format
Same Names - finds all duplicate file names in folders/disks
Send PS - sends PostScript files to the current printer
Show Aliases - shows aliases (and detects bad links)
Show Apps - shows applications and their creator codes
Show Essential - shows files/folders with the "Essential" label
Show Folders - shows the folder hierarchy in given folders/disks
Show Long Names - shows file/folder names longer than 25 characters
Show Weird Names - shows file/folder names with invisible characters
Unlock Files - have a guess!
Many other tasks are possible. It's a simple matter to modify an
existing joblet to suit your own needs (just double click on it).
Odd Jobs has many nice features. Probably the most interesting is its
pattern matching capabilities. You can select files/folders whose names,
types, creators or attributes match grep-like patterns. For example:
The Show Weird Names joblet uses the pattern "*[\0-\31\127]*" to find
all file/folder names containing any control character or delete.
Show Long Names uses the pattern "?<26->" and Send PS selects file names
matching the pattern "*.(ps|eps(|f))". Such patterns allow you to do
sophisticated selections that can't be done using Find File.
Odd Jobs is a fat application that will run on any Mac using System 7 or
later and is fully compatible with OS 8.x. The shareware fee is $15.

Subject: [*] PageComm - Paging Software
PageComm
Paging Software for the Mac
Version: 0.72
Shareware - $5
Introduction
Welcome to PageComm, a numeric paging program designed to monitor your
phone line and notify you via your pager whenever you receive a call.
When combined with a remote call pick up answering machine, you can easily
set up a voice messaging system by having PageComm notify you whenever you
have a message.
Features
- Pages you whenever you have a call (after a user-defined number of
rings). PageComm can page you for every call, only calls after a certain
number of rings and/or when you have messages on your answering machine.
- Distinguishes whether a message has been left on your answering machine
(using a check message delay feature) and will notify you accordingly.
- PageComm will page in the number of rings for each call as a prefix for
the numeric message, or if a message was left, a special user-defined
prefix to distinguish the call.
- All phone calls are recorded in a log, displaying the time of call, date
of call, the number of rings, and whether or not a message was left.
- PageComm is fully customizable, thus making it easy for you to set up the
program specifically for your pager.
Enjoy!

Subject: [*] Pre Version, a lifesaver for data
This control panel keeps previous saved versions of any kind of document
you tell it to. If you've ever deleted a paragraph or a file and then,
three or four days later, wish you hadn't, you'll like this.
Tell it what to track, e.g. all Illustrator documents in the graphics
folder (but not in the scratch folder), all WordPerfect documents in the
papers folder, and all FileMaker documents anywhere on your disk. Tell it
how many versions to keep. Then, every time you save changes to a document,
Pre Version rescues the earlier version from being overwritten. Keep as
many versions as you want. By comparison, Alladin's commercial FlashBack
requires you to specify each document (not each kind of document) that you
want to keep previous versions of.
I was glad to see that Pre Version runs fine under OS 8.1, even though it
dates from 1992. It was posted on archives earlier, with the docs in
MacWrite II format, and I think not many people saw how valuable a saftey
net it is. So, with the permission of the author, I've printed the docs to
a reader format, and am resubmitting it to Mac archives. Shareware $35.
I'm not making any money from this, but it's one of my all-time-favorite
utilities.

SwitchRes is a control panel that allows you to control the resolutions
of all your displays. A Control Strip Module and a Contextual Menu
extension are bundled. You can change all your resolutions with just
one mouse click on the Finder desktop, or just by pressing one key.
It also allows you to:
* use *all* avaiable resolution of your video cards, not only those the
MacOS choose for you
* automatically switch resolution and color depth of all monitors when
launching an application
* position the desktop icons where you want, at every resolution change
and at startup
* configure the menus by choosing which resolutions and what bitdepths
will be displayed (Control Strip Module menu, Contextual Menu)
and a lot of other features...
SwitchRes requires MacOS 8, and a multisync monitor may be useful...
It is distributed as a $9 shareware.
Bugs corrected and news in version 1.4.1:
* SwitchRes is fully Appearance savvy, and supports all the themes in
the new MacOS 8.5
* the SwitchRes Control Strip Module is provided as a native Control
Strip Module for MacOS 8.5
* Now you can use all available resolutions of your video card even
if you don't have a PCI Macintosh.
* The AppleVision/ColorSync 1710, 750 and 850 monitors are now
correctly handled again.
* SwitchRes now correctly prevents some applications to change the
resolution to an unaccessible one. For example, Diablo could change
the resolution to 640x480, 67 Hz even if you disabled it in
SwitchRes.
* A bug that prevented FaxCilitate to be used when SwitchRes was active
is now corrected.
What was new in version 1.4:
* The SwitchRes Control Strip Module becomes optional. You only need to
install the Control Panel.
* Instead of the Control Strip, an icon can be displayed in the System
Menu bar to give you access to SwitchRes from within all applications
* A Contextual Menu Extension is bundled, that allows you to change the
resolutions of all your displays with just one click on the desktop
* You can assign a key shortcut to a display set. Enjoy changing your
resolutions by pressing just one key !

Subject: [*] VSE File Pirate 2.0 (68k) - Find treasures on your hard disk
VSE File Pirate (68k version)
VSE File Pirate is a unique tool that allows you to find all hidden
resources on any hard disk: pictures, icons, sounds, texts and much more.
Every Macintosh application stores its resources (e.g. pictures, sounds,
texts and even the appearance of dialog boxes) in a resource fork. VSE File
Pirate is able to "extract" those resources from the resource fork of any
application of your choice. It will save picture resources as usual picture
files, sound resources as System 7 Sound files and so on.
BENEFITS
- grabs tons of pictures from your hard disk
- rips lots of sounds from your hard disk
- displays hidden texts of your applications
- extracts color palettes and desktop patterns
- collects color icons and builds your own library
- finds funny easter-eggs
- enters games and presents hidden parts
- works with nearly all applications and documents
- you can save everything that is found
- the only application of its kind
- very easy to use, even for beginners
- speedy
