It is also a database including information about your system environment. You see not only some technical infos but also understandable interpretation of most codes (in English). There are too many new features in GestLab to be listed here (a mini doc is included). You have to know that GestLab user interface needs at least Appearance Manager 1.0.1 (version found in Mac OS 8.1 and next). You can install the Appearance extensions in Mac OS 7.1 and next (these extensions are available at www.apple.com). Without Appearance Manager, you will only allowed to save your configuration, not to examine it. So, if your machine has at least Mac OS 8.1, use GestLab. With older systems, continue to use Gestalt.Appl. GestLab main goal is to maintain the more exhaustive Gestalt selector database. When using it, if your configuration is displaying info not yet in the database (what it is very easy to realize, this info is displayed in red), don't hesitate to send it to me: I'll analyse it and update the database for the next release. Your collaboration is essential in this domain. As Rene G. A. Ros said in his Gestalt Selectors List, GestLab is the new 'official' Gestalt hunters tool! Vous voyez non seulement des infos techniques mais aussi une interpretation comprehensible de la plupart des codes (en francais). Il y a beaucoup trop de nouvelles fonctionnalites dans GestLab pour les lister ici (une mini doc est incluse). It uses its own simple language to allow the text-generation rules to be completely user-configurable. It is easy to write your own rules for McPoet even if you know nothing about programming your Mac. You can also use the large set of built-in rules, or the automatic rule-generating function which can turn ordinary text into an executable rule. The text morphing features include an automatic version of Tristan Tzara's original Dadaist formula for creating poetry from text, an eecummingsfication feature for imitating the style of the great poet ee cummings, multiple forms of Markov chaining (completely re-written and expanded in version 5.1) and much more. Rule files, the word-type files that they reference, and Markov chain probability tables are stored externally, on disk. There are no strong constraints on the number of word types, rules, or Markov chain prob bility tables you can use. McPoet can be expanded and fully customized by the end-user. Version 5.1 fixes all known bugs in version 5.0, and adds much new functionality, including totally-rewritten and expanded Markov chaining capabilities (allowing you to chain together many probability tables at the same time) and new user-configurable dialect mappings. So for instance, if you said "Shut Down" and went away, but a dialog came up saying that someone was connected to your computer, instead of staying that way all night, Okey-Dokey Pro would eventually click "Okay" for you, and let the shut down proceed. It's handy, it's small, it won't do anything bad. Oh, I know, it also clicks away on the alert that says you have new mail, for instance. I think it was introduced with Word 5. InformInit is also correct--there is usually a PostScript font and a suitcase of screen fonts. The thing that throws most people off is that Word 5 was released around the same time as System 7.0. Remember that brief, golden time when screen fonts lived in the System suitcase, and PostScript fonts lived in the exciting new Extensions folder? So, if I am remembering this correctly, the Word 5.1 Installer puts MTExt's screen fonts in the System suitcase and the MTExt PostScript font in the Extensions folder. I don't know what the Word 6 Installer does. When we upgraded to 7.1, I remember going around and moving both the screen font and the printer font into the exciting new Fonts folder. I don't remember ever seeing MTExt in the Fonts menu. It may be that the screen font was modified in some way so as only to appear when one is running Equation Editor, but I'm just guessing now. A modal dialog is a dialog that stops the operation of your machine until someone responds to it. An example would be the "Do you want to save the document" dialog that pops up when you quit an application without having saved your work. You can't switch to another app or do anything else until you respond to that dialog. >Do I and my loved ones have them? Yes. >I am afraid to >try things out by doing them in general, since I might get a lot more done >than I bargained for. So, what does this do that is so praiseworthy. It dismisses modal dialogs by causing a click on the default button after a configurable timeout. For example, I have a script that sets Toast up to burn a particular CD. When my script tells Toast to use such-and-such a volume for the Mac portion of the CD, Toast throws up a modal dialog reporting that some flavor of optimization is going to be used, blah blah blah. Without Okey Dokey Pro, my script would stop there, waiting for a human to click OK. Okey Dokey Pro allows the script to continue by clicking OK for me after ten seconds, and when I come in in the morning, Toast is asking me for a blank CD. Another example would be shutting down your machine and walking away. I imagine we've all shut down, walked away, then come back hours later to find the machine sitting at a "Save Changes?" or "Contents of the RAM disk will be lost..." dialog. Okey Dokey Pro would dismiss that dialog for you. >By the >way, does this work with 8.1 and 8.5.1? So far as I know, it does. Because of that, no one outside of your home will be able to see any AppleTalk services you may have running on your home network. I've created some web pages one of which is linked to a .wav file. When I test the local page on my computer (PowerMac 7500 with Netscape 4.5.1) the browser loads the file, the small "controller icon" appears and the sound plays as it is supposed to. After the pages are uploaded to my server and I access them with the same computer and the same browser and attempt to play the sound, the "controller" icon does not appear and no sound is audible; instead the file is downloaded. I've asked friends (most of whom have PC's) to access my site and the page behaves as it should; they are able to play the sound. A couple of folks with Macs played the sound successfully.
