Catalog Different

AutoCat Home Page: http://tubular.net/autocat/
Online Registration: http://order.kagi.com/?OL
Author email: autocat@tubular.net

AutoCat got 4 mice at Macdownload, and 4 cows at Tucows.

Highligths:
- Catalog all your removable volumes in a very Macintosh way.
- Navigate through your catalog directly from the Finder.
- Navigate through your catalog from Open/Save dialogs.
- No application to launch to navigate through your catalog.
- Use the Finder's 'Find' command to search your catalog.
- Works in the background.
- Appearance-savvy, Navigation Services-savvy.

What's new in AutoCat 2.3B
- Problems with pictures in the HTML documentation fixed.

What's new in AutoCat 2.3
- 'Eject after cataloging' option.
- 'Autoscan when inserted' option.

AutoCat works with all PowerMac with Mac OS 7.6 or better, but
it's optimized for Mac OS 8.5.

AutoCat can be included in CD-ROMs.

Happy AutoCataloging!

Backgammon Lite is a FREEWARE program that allows you to play backgammon on
your macintosh computer. There is no computer opponent so the game requires
two players. You will also need your own pair of dice and a set of rules
that you can easily obtain on the internet. This program merely replaces the
clutter of the board and the pieces. Part of the experience of playing the
game is having to roll the dice and if I had added a dice feature to the
game I feel that I would have taken something away from your experience with
playing backgammon.

 - Matrix scatterplots
 - Box and Whisker plots
 - Frequency distribution histograms
 - Descriptive statistics.
 - Output of deviance, parameter estimates, residuals and parameter
correlations
 - Saving of data files complete with all model specifications.
 - printing of data, graph and results.
 - Missing values
 - Online Help (under the apple menu) and a brief User Manual.
 - includes example data files for most examples in two of the texts.
 - Individual licences available for $US20. Site licences $US150. World
site licence $US450. Payment in $US through Kagi Shareware.

Unregistered copies are fully functional except that Save and Save As are
disabled and there are some limitations on usage.

Version 4.1.0
 - sequential fitting
 - t-tests, Wilcoxon and sign tests
 - subset command to allow logical definition of subsets eg sex=2
 - empirical logit transform for Scatter and Matrix graphs with Binomial errors
 - split Define dialog into two dialogs creating Fit Options dialog which
contains settings not defining the generalised linear model
 - made a lot of changes to the Graphing routines to make sure everything
is in the right place and there are no cosmetic problems. Changed plotted
symbol sizes slightly and added new very small symbol size
 - vertical axis label in graphs should now print as rotated text on
postscript printers not as a bitmap
 - fixed bug which caused display errors or crash when importing text and
too many errors
 - improved behaviour of graphs when data is changed by hiding them and
then redrawing only when graph is shown and checking that graph contains
columns which were changed

Version 4.1.1

Hang2000 v1.4 Released!

Merrimack, New Hampshire, April 22, 1999: Ken Winograd and
Space-Time Associates announced today the release of version 1.4
of a fun Macintosh shareware game called Hang2000. Hang2000 is
a new take on the classic hangman word guessing game we
all played when we were kids. It features colorful,
non-violent graphics, digitized sounds, synthesized speech,
dozens of built-in word categories, thousands of words,
unlimited lists of your own words, and much more.

Hang2000 is "secretly educational". It's played for fun,
but you can't help learning. Included in Hang2000 is a
new "knowledge area". This area will include
information associated with the guessed word or phrase.
If the word chosen is from the States or Countries
category, for example, the knowledge area will show the
capital of the State or Country. If the category is Authors
or Composers, the knowledge area will show facts about, or
famous works of, the author or composer. You can also
make your own lists (unlimited in number) and include
your own associated information.

There are dozens of categories, guaranteed to include
something for everyone. From Monsters and Dinosaurs to
Star Trek and Television Shows, from Animals and Birds
to Colors and Cities, from Fruits and Vegetables to
Presidents and Vice-Presidents, from Rock and Roll to
Opera and Musical Instruments. And literally dozens more!

Version 1.4 of Hang2000 includes a new Multi-Level Winning
Streak Score Board. Now students and family members alike
can keep track of their winning streaks. And, best of all,
separate scoreboards are kept for each difficulty level,
so users can compete against users choosing the same
difficulty level.

Also new in Version 1.4 of Hang2000 is full support for
what's often known as "accented" characters. Hang2000 now
supports the entry and display of words in many languages,
including Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, Flemish, French,
German, Italian, Norwegian, Spanish and Swedish. Language
teachers take note, Hang2000 makes learning vocabulary
more fun than ever before.

Hang2000 requires a Macintosh that supports 256 colors
or more.

Subject: [*] MacTypingTutor 4.6

Replaces MacTypingTutor4.5.3 for Power Macintoshes. Now with several new
optional features: 1) 'Talking Keys,' which lets you hear key names as you
type them; 2) 'Spoken Prompts,' which lets the program make audible
comments; and 3) Dvorak typing, which in some cases may let you type
faster. These three new features are mouse-click options; you can turn each
of them on, if you like, or just use the program in the regular way. The
program also includes an on-screen Pop-Up menu that lets you read about
each of the program's standard features.

Individuals with regular Macintoshes should download MacTypingTutor4.3.1 or
earlier. Schools can arrange to acquire both the Power Mac version and
regular Mac version for the same fee.

The MacTypingTutor programs are great for beginning typing students. They
use five integrated work areas that together teach correct finger placement
and memorization of the keyboard keys. Practice exercises focus on single
letters, letter and number sequences, words, sentences, paragraphs, and
free typing. The program offers a spelling checker, user-defined speed
goals, score sheets, time tracking with rest signals, and many other
helpful features. You can hide or show your typing, screen-keyboard, and
feedback reports. You can adjust difficulty level from very easy to hard
(this is a good feature for younger children). The program automatically
remembers your work-preferences from session to session.

MacTypingTutor comes in the regular version, a special keyboard version
(Dvorak), a French version, an English version with a French
keyboard-layout, and one-handed versions (left or right). Contact W. Rogers
at one of the email addresses below to get other versions of MacTypingTutor.

The Mavicator is a compact and efficient application, which greatly
simplifies the copying and archiving process for the Mavica=81 Digital
Camera. The Mavicator aims to be the premiere archiving utility for
the Mavica on the Macintosh. It is simple, yet its time saving
feature set can not be found anywhere else. It speeds up the process
of copying and archiving your Mavica photos. It copies them
automatically to a user-defined directory, and renames them with a
title reflecting their creation date. It then fixes their file types
for easy opening, and names their containing folder with the date of
the archiving. It then continues to run, accepting disk after disk,
until all disks have been archived.

Subject: [*] Script Palette (an AppleScript Utility)

Script Palette is an easy way to improve your script editor. But don't be
misled: what it propose doesn't have the power of real scripting tools.

Listening to the complaints about Apple's Script Editor's shortcomings, I
have written in AppleScript using Dialog Director and Akua Sweets (you'll
also need Jon's Commands if you don't have OS 8.5) an applet to help fill
in these shortcomings. Here's how it works: it is a floating palette
(that can float above any application) with buttons, that are linked to
script files actually. When a button is clicked, the corresponding script
file is loaded as script object and executed. And this is why Script
Palette's possibilities are without any limits: anyone can create his own
script files and have Script Palette load them as buttons. In fact you
can also use Script Palette with any other kind of work and create your
appropriate buttons. You can customize the style, the width and the
height of the buttons. A few basic buttons are povided with Script
Palette; you can make use of them or delete them.

Script Palette is freeware. Don't forget to drop me a word
(<mailto:jeanph@vossnet.de>) saying that you've downloaded it: you'll be
informed about updates and receive them directly by email if you wish.
And if you find it useful, recommend it to your friends!

ability to hold the interest of players over a long period of time.

The rich history of this game has produced a number of local variations, but the
basic outlines have been standardized by the German Schafkopf Association. These
and the US-rules from the National Sheepshead Association form the basis of this
program which implements a four-player version of the game.

* The computer simulates three players each with selectable playing
styles.
Sound, personal game statistics, and assorted card types add variety.
Comprehensive explanations of the rules, playing strategy suggestions,
and a training mode are available for beginners.

The program simulates 3 players each of whom can be given one of four
playing styles. Sounds include 6 voices (3 male and 3 female). Play
ratings, assorted card faces, contextual help and rules for beginners are
a
standard part of the program. Variations include practice mode, bock
rounds, and twelve different solo types.

Schafkopf/Sheepshead-Version V1.1 includes the following improvements
since
V1.0:

-	You can display a large card table as your playing surface.
-	Bock rounds and "wenzels" are now available as part of play.
-	Several bugs related to the text display and old German card sets
	have been corrected.
-	Support for the new open/save dialogs in System 8.5.
-	PowerPC-native code for faster speed.
-	Support for Macs without disk drives (e.g., iMac). Disk 1 is no
	longer requred.
- many additional small improvements in details including, for
example, the play of your cards with a single mouse click. You can
choose a single or double click.

Subject: [*] Simple PIM Abstract - SimPimv2.fp3

Here's a simple personal information manager designed in FileMaker Pro
3/4 for those of us whose lives are not so strictly regulated by clock
and calendar and who don't need to schedule in 10 or 15-minute
increments. It contains an introductory database (Master) plus selection
of related templates (Contacts, Journal, and Schedule) which are
designed to be used together to manage and document personal and
professional activities. The templates for Contacts and Journal can be
used alone, however, the Schedule template is heavily linked to Contacts.

Please note that the Journal portion of the PIM supersedes Journal 1.05
and Journal 1.06 which are now obsolete. Users who registered for either
of these may secure a free password to the new Journal portion of PIM by
contacting the developer.

PIM (SimPimv2.fp3) contains three primary templates and should be
compatible with both PC and Macintosh platforms although it has not been
tested for the PC. The databases are:

Master 2.0.0 (Mstr200.fp3) to present a title page and introductory
documentation.

Contacts 2.0.0 (Cntct200.fp3) to keep track of personal and
business contacts.
It has two layouts: an entry page and a list view.

Journal 2.0.0 (Journ200.fp3) to maintain a computer-based diary or journal.
It has two layouts: a journal entry page and a list (contents) view.

Schedule 2.0.0 (Schdl200.fp3) to record and manage appointments and
to-do's.
It has three layouts: an entry page which contains complete data, a
list page which summarizes to-do's and appointments, and an expense page.

Users have full access to every feature of the PIM except for designing
or changing layouts, editing scripts, and defining value lists. These
features may be accessed after registration. There is no limitation as
to number of records, printing, saving, etc.

Subject: [*] Twistory 1.4 - History Browser

Twistory 1.4

"Twistory" is a history browser. It displays the lifetimes and
travels of historical figures, and dates and locations of historical
events. It is a tool for keeping track of when and where things happened,
and their relationships to each other. It is meant to provide a way to
keep track of the multitude of different peoples, dynasties, empires and
developments throughout history. It answers questions like, "What else was
happening in the world at that time?"

Twistory is a historical dictionary that you can use to create maps
and time-lines. A resource of over 2100 people, events and places is
included. The database has an open text format, so that more historical
information can be added by any user. A complete description of the file
format is included.

The two main windows are the time-line window, which shows lives and
events against a variable time scale, and the map window, which shows
people and events in their geographic locations during an interval of time.
There is also a genealogy window which shows the ancestors and descendants
of the selected person, and an info window that shows additional details
about the person or event. A "This Day in History" window lists all
milestones occurring on a particular day of the year. It also has a "Find"
window.
