Instead CLT announced that they wanted to start another new channel, RTL Super. According to the magazine, CLT and Ufa had differeing opinions on the future of VOX. CLT want a general entertainment channel along the lines of their RTL or RTL 2 networks. Ufa, who also have a 24.9% share, said they wanted the focus of the channel to remain on infomation. The proposed new RTL Super channel will be based on a movies and series programmes concept. The remaining 25.2 % in VOX has since been purchased by publishing group Burda joining Ufa (24.9%) and News International (49.9%) as the owners of VOX. Radio 538 to leave Astra ? The latest Dutch radio station to leave Astra and switch to the Dutch SCPC radio packet on Eutelsat 2 F1 may be Radio 538. TS german news reports that Sky may move the channel onto a digital feed to make room for the new Sky Radio Deutschland. The new radio station is a golden oldies programme aimed at Europe as a whole. The programme will be hits of the 50's, 60's and 70's, similar to RTL Radio's Der Oldie Sender. Late July or early August is given as the end date for Radio 538 with test transmissions from the new Sky Radio due during August. Just last week Sky launched an oldies radio channel for the Netherlands. Latest Dutch radio figures Audience research for May in Holland shows the pop and rock station NOS 3 is the most popular station in the country. The daytime figures (0700-1900) are : NOS 3 26.2% NOS regional radio 18.9% 675 Radio 10 Gold 9.1% NOS 1 9.0% NOS 2 7.0% Radio Nordsee International 6.0% Sky Radio 5.5% NOS 4 2.5% Radio 538 2.5% 1224 Holland FM 2.5% Love Radio 1.3% Happy RTL 1.2% NOS 5 1.0% Classic FM 0.2% Other stations 7.0% Russia joins Eutlesat Russia has joined other CIS nations in becoming a member of the European Satellite Organization, Eutelsat. The contract, to become a full member, was signed in the Paris headquarters of Eutlesat on July 5. Russia becomes the 41st member. Ariane V36 launch blasts off The most recent Ariane launch, V36, was successfull last Friday night as the launcher carried PanAmSat 2 and a new JCSat. Both satellites are heading for the Asian region with PanAmSat providing broadcast and telecoms links between nations around the Pacific Ocean. PanAmSat 2 is a Hughes 601, similar to Astra 1A. JCSat will give Japanese viewers more television as well as improved telecommunications. The launch vehicle was an Ariane 4 rocket. Ariane wins MEASAT-1 contract Ariane has been chosen as the launch vehicle of the first MEASAT due for launch later this year. The Malaysian telecommunications satellite will provide telephone, telex, data and digital television for Malaysia, the Philippines and nearby countries. Scharf next Eurovision president The Bayerischen Rundfunk (BR) chief, Professor Albert Scharf is to become the next president of the European Broadcasting Union. He will take up his post from 1995. ZDF wins June ratings war .... Second German television, ZDF, held out against it's competitors to finish first in the June ratings wars in Germany. With a market share of 18.6% ZDF beat out ARD which finished in second place with a 17.6% share. RTL managed 16.5% and SAT 1 13.4%. .... but RTL win first half year RTL finished out ahead in the German ratings for the first half of 1994. Latest GfK data indicates that RTL attracted a slightly higher audience than ZDF. RTL Television 17.8% ZDF 17.5% ARD 16.8% SAT 1 14.6% PRO 7 9.1% PRO 7 teletext from July 12 As sporadic tests of text on Pro 7 continue, TS news can report that the full service is scheduled to start on July 12th. The text will be called "Express TV" and will contain TV guides for around 30 channels ! Viewers should be able to use the service via Astra, Kopernikus and cable. Reise TV update - Latest news from Reise TV, the new German travel and holiday channel is that they will be starting up on 1 September via UK Gold on Astra 1B. The times given for transmission are 0330 - 0800 CET. The time was made available after a European Parliament ruling limiting the number of "infomercials" to just one hour a day on EU based TV channels. CMR come back ? Latest rumours concerning Country Music Radio suggest they may make a come back via the Family Channel / Childrens Channel transponder on Astra 1C. The station is currently of the air with "technical problems". New "Videotext fur alle" on ARD / ZDF First and second German television, ARD and ZDF, have launched a new Videotext fur alle service. The new service uses modern computer generated graphics rather than the traditional teletext display. The srevice is broadcast nightly betwwen programme close and the breakfast programme in the morning. Check the Canal Classico channel, 7.38 / 7.56 MHz on Hispasat for Spain's second network. - After missing the end date of April 1st for analogue radio on Telecom, the revised end date is September 1st.
