Also, the program I heard on the 23rd sounded like a canned tape of an old program they had at the relay station, not the normal programming for this time period. Vedo and FE Russia R. use former jammer transmitters [B. Oxner via ANARC BBS] A relay agreement has been signed between Deutche Welle and Radio Moscow to use former jamming transmitters for relays to Asia. No start date was announced. [S. Galato via USEnet] Radio Netherlands has reported a new 100 kW shortwave transmitter located just south of Moscow, using 9535 kHz. Estonian Radio was the only station in the Baltic area not closed or taken over by forces supporting the hardliners during the coup. As a result of the coup, Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev has fired the head of state broadcasting. Major changes are expected under the new head, Yegor Yakovlev. [SCDX 2139 via USEnet] Well, I must say it's been an interesting month, hi! A nice selection of loggings this time, but a bit thinner than I expected considering the amount of news-worthy activities in the Soviet Union because of the turmoil caused by the coup attempt. Monitoring RM during the coup was an interesting exercise to say the least! As I said above, reception was spotty at best. These observations were confirmed by various messages on the computer networks and SCDX 2139 (quoted above). In fact, there was so much computer network information available that I can't possibly quote it all here (too bad). Anyway, that's all I have time for this month, as I am running late again and need to get this column in the mail soon. CU next time. -Jason
