NR #1995-048: For Immediate Release Second PCA Presbytery Rejects Paedocommunion; Ordination Permitted but Pastor May Not Teach His Beliefs by Frank Smith, Editor, PCA News Distributed by United Reformed News Service ROCK TAVERN, NY (May 13, 1995) PCA/N - Acting at its stated meeting on May 12 and 13 at Rock Tavern, New York, the PCA's Northeast Presbytery approved the ordination of Steve Magee despite his decision to take two exceptions to the PCA's confessional standards regarding family recreational activities on the Sabbath and paedocommunion. Presbytery specifically instructed Magee not to teach his exceptions to the church, but approved him for ordination as associate pastor at Christ Church of Nashua, New Hampshire, with particular responsibilities for church planting in Exeter, New Hampshire. Magee is currently a ruling elder at the Nashua church. During his exam, Magee stated that the Plan of Union in 1801 between the Presbyterian and Congregational churches had left New England nearly bereft of a Presbyterian witness, and that it was ill-conceived in that it forgot the connection between ecclesiology and Christology. "Christ is King of the church," said Magee, noting that "the New Testament is not just pious advice" as to how the church is to be run.
