.bp 1 .ce 99 ucdked .sp 4 .SH Introduction .LP On an experimental basis I have established an anonymous account on my personal Xenix system. This is for the convenience of those wishing access to my personal library and public domain programs that I have modified for use under SCO Xenix. .LP To use this account you must have a mechanism for connecting to cc-dnet.ucdavis.edu [128.120.2.251], usually telnet through internet. (You can also dial the UCD computer center switch at 916-752-7950.) .LP The connection between the UCD computer center switch and ucdked may be used at 300-9600 baud. One 2400 baud dialup is also available by special arrangement. .LP At the prompt .LP Request: .LP respond with .LP ucdked .LP With luck you should see .LP ucdked!login: .LP To this you should respond .LP guest .LP If you do not get the "ucdked!login:" prompt, try a few carriage returns. With some luck, you will be able to connect to my office machine, an ATT6310 running SCO Xenix. .IP NOTE Very often the logic prompt is lost in the shuffle and you are first asked for a password. Type a carriage return in response to this request whenever it appears. .LP At this point you will be asked if you want to read an introductory message and news pertaining to the system. Following this you should receive the prompt .LP (ucdked) .LP From this point on, you can use those commands permitted by rsh (the restricted shell) to browse or to transfer files. .SH File Transfer Protocols .LP Currently ucdked offers the following protocols. .IP cu 10 Use the %take command. This gives ascii (unchecked) transfers. Binary files must be coded with uuencode, btoa, kencode, abe, etc. .IP kermit 10 Give the command .sp kermit file(s) .sp to call a shell script that starts kermit in the proper mode. Follow the instructions the program gives you. .IP zmodem 10 To download files, give the command .sp sz file(s) .sp or .sp sz -F name .sp where name is a file containing a list of files to download. At your end use the command .sp rz -e .SH Making Lists of Files .IP (a) Find the appropriate directory. .IP (b) Give the command .sp find directory -type f -print | tee filelist.tmp .IP NOTE The restricted shell (rsh) does not allow the use of redirection. .SH Leaving Messages .LP Comments and requests should be sent with the command .sp mail cck .LP If I appear to be on the system, you can communicate with me by means of the write command. .LP My system is generally available for logins from 1700-0800 PST. This is not guaranteed, and I am not running a bulletin board. This connection is simply to save me the hassle of packaging items for transmission. If it proves a burden, I will remove the guest account. I have only one serial line, and if I need it, you may be disconnected with little or no notice. .LP .nf Earl H.
