Brussels trams

Brussels STIB tram no.3008. These new T3000 trams made by Bombardier have by now almost completely replaced all older trams of Brussels. The producing company Bombardier (now Alstom) calls these trams Flexity Outlook Cityrunners. It's a 30 metres long five section tram with driver's cabs at both ends and doors on both sides.

At Brussels Gare du Midi these same trams run underground and stop at the same station than the metro trains, but since the floor height of the trams is much lower than metro trains, they are using a special section of the platform with stairs down to a lower level.

Brussels STIB tram no.2007 is one of the so called T2000 or Tram 2000 wagons that were built by Bombardier in Germany 1993-95. STIB has 51 of them.

STIB tram 7727 at Koeningstraat in Brussels. It is a PCC tram from the 1960s. PCC stands for President's conference committee. They were originally US trams from the 1930s that USA donated free or sold cheaply after the war as part of the so called Marshall aid programme. The Belgians got a licence and built more PCC trams themselves. This is a later development which is based on the technology of the original PCCs.

Still another view of the STIB PCC tram 7727 at Koeningstraat in Brussels. This 1960s model is essentially two original PCC trams coupled back to back.

This STIB tram 7909 has been created by combining two of the PCC drivative trams like shown above back to back and thereby creating a bidirectional wagon. It has now two separate motor wagon parts with also two pantographs and doors on both sides.
