Subject: [*] Birthdays-and-Such 1.1 update

Birthdays-and-Such 1.1

Birthdays and Such is a tiny application meant to be launched on daily
startup, to remind you of the important birthdays and anniversaries in your
life. (It's only 17K, plus a sample Reminders text file and a manual.) It
works for me, which has made me the envy of all my friends and relatives. By
setting reminders 10 or so days ahead, I find I'm as on the ball as the best
of the rest of my friends and relatives in remembering to buy cards and
presents (and to actually send them)--and way ahead of the date-impaired.

And it works for lots of other people around the world. Here's what a few
users of Birthdays and Suchx have written to say:
"Finally! a Reminder that runs in 55K and doesn't lock up my Mac. I love
it!"
     "Thanks! Neat little program."
"I ran across your Birthdays and Such reminder program out on the
internet. I had been looking for something like that, and I really like it.
This is the first time I have ever kept, used, and paid for a shareware
program."
"Love your program! Lifesaver (or wifesaver, at the very least)."
"I forget how I came across your reminder application, but in just a few
weeks I have grown to really appreciate your work. As a father, grandfather,
and caregiver to my father there are too many special dates to be remembered
and acknowledged. Clean & simple, thanks."

Enjoy!

ClockSync II 1.0.2 (by Jeremy Kezer).

Author's email address: jbkezer@kagi.com

If you have two or more Macintoshes, you probably notice that the clocks
drift apart as time goes by. This can range from being a minor nuisance to
a problem, especially if you do a lot of synchronizing between the
Macintoshes. ClockSync II synchronizes the clocks between two or more
Macintoshes, by setting the clocks of the "Servant"Macintoshes to that of a
"Master" Macintosh.

ClockSync has two components. The ClockSync Master runs continuously on
the "Master" Macintosh, while the ClockSync Servant can be run on any other
Macintosh on the network to update its time.

All of my utilities can be registered through the Kagi shareware system.

Version 1.0.2 has the following enhancements:
 - A 50-user license is now available.
 - A bug that could potentially corrupt the Servant preferences was fixed.
 - The grayscale appearance was enhanced.

Shareware; $5 for a 3-user license with larger licenses available.

Subject: [*] ClockWork 1.0b1 - Dayplanner for MacOS and Newton

Century Software (www.centsoft.com) announces the second preview release
of ClockWork, its advanced day planner for MacOS and Newton. A final
release is scheduled for July 97.

ClockWork is easy to use, offers powerful functionality and supports a
wide range of Apple technologies. It stands out from the crowd by
implementing unique features such as voice annotations, Text-to-Speech
support, Auto-Power-On for PowerMacs, automatic calculation of
international holidays and tight integration with the MacOS and Newton
operating systems.

ClockWork supports shared schedules allowing a team of MacOS users to
share a category of events. The application implements automation using
AppleScript (scriptable, recordable and attachable). A Reminder control
panel displays alarms if ClockWork is not running and installs a global
Finder menu showing today's to-dos and appointments.

The program features calendar synchronization with PowerBook and Newton
MessagePad computers. It synchronizes schedules with the built-in dates
application of the NewtonOS directly from within the program.

ClockWork is Macintosh first and Macintosh only. Century Software has no
plans to ship a version for operating systems of the evil empire.

System requirements: System 7.0, PPC or 68K with 7MB free RAM and 10MB of
hard disk space.

Subject: [*] EZ-Cal 1.0

EZ-Cal is a simple freeware program to display a monthly calendar. It can
display a calendar from Jan, 1 A.D. to December 2,147,483,647 A.D. (Though
calendars for that far in the future are probably inaccurate due to
problems with the Gregorian calendar and dates that far in advance are
probably irrelevant.)

The program uses Julian dates for days before September 14, 1752. It uses
Gregorian dates for days after September 2, 1752. This was the time when
Greatm Britain and its colonies switched to the Gregorian calendar. To make
up form accumlated inaccuracies, days were skipped, hence the weird dates
in the first sentence.

EZ-Cal is not a date-book, nor a personal reminder system, nor a calorie
counter. I wrote it to fulfill a simple purpose, and I hope it does it well.

EZ-Cal is a fat binary, which means that it runs natively on the older
(680x0) Macs and PowerPC Macintoshes. It requires system version 7.0 or
greater.

Subject: [*] NU Fixer Extension, for Norton Utilities 2.0.x

This extension is of relevance only to users of Norton Utilities version
2.x; version 3.x users should abstain. This extension is not original with
me; I simply dug it up somewhere, long ago, and am posting it because I
haven't seen it anywhere online recently.

>From the User Documentation

When Norton Utilities v2.0 was released, it was a safe bet that
any Macintosh clock having a date all the way into the year 1995 was set
incorrectly. Norton Utilities has proved to be written well enough that it
has not been obsoleted by new system software releases or new hardware. As
a result, it has recently been warning people that their Macintosh clocks
may be wrong. This can be unnerving when the very reason you are running
Norton Utilities is because your computing world is coming down all around
you.

NU Fixer is an extension that simply changes the date that Norton
Utilities uses for checking your Macintosh clock. When the extension is
active, Norton Utilities will use January 1, 1999 for this sanity check.
Your Norton Utilities application is otherwise unaffected and the copy on
your disk is not changed at all.

Subject: [*] OT/PPP Strip 1.0.1

OT/PPP Strip is a free Control Strip module that works with Apple's Open
Transport/PPP software to allow you to quickly change PPP configurations,
connect, and disconnect OT/PPP without going to the PPP Control Panel. In
addition, it can display your current connect time, speed, or activity
right in the Control Strip itself, also saving you a trip to the control
panel.

1.0.1 is a maintenance and bug-fix release. In addition to a number of
minor changes to icons and help strings, version 1.0.1:

 - now correctly allows hard drives to spin down and machines to sleep

 - fixes a conflict with DiskExpress II (which will now run correctly in
   the background)

 - fixes a problem where systems using localized (non-English) versions of
the PPP Commands scripting addition from properly recognizing when PPP
   had an active connection.

Subject: [*] OutBox Demo

OutBox is a new solution for Macintosh users who need a powerful tool to
send personalized mass email to individuals and groups. OutBox works in
conjunction with Claris Emailer or Qualcomm Eudora to send your email.
Customized email generated by OutBox is "loaded" into one of these two
popular email programs and sent the next time you send email.

OutBox applies the concept of mail-merge to email. With OutBox's
powerful email merge features, you can create a single message, address
it to a group of people, and have OutBox automatically personalize the
message for each person. In addition, powerful 'Merge Actions' let you
send customized email based on an individual's personal information. For
example, you could send customized email based on a person's computer
platform, job title, gender, political party, zip code, and more.

To find out more about OutBox's other exciting features or to purchase
OutBox online, please visit the Spinfree OutBox web site at
http://spinfree.com/outbox or email us at outbox@spinfree.com.

Subject: [*] TourDeFranceImages_circa1950's

Here are 39 screen grabs of the Tour De France cycle race. They are from a
very old piece of film and the quality isn't what we expect today, but as a
memento of the race and the men who endured it, the (minimum) download time
is worth it. The grabs are greyscale due to the original being black and
white.160 x 120, 72 dpi jpegs. I've thrown in a small viewer, Dave Howells
Quickshow, to provide an instant slide show. The images are in self
extracting format.

There are no details with the files, I grabbed the images from live TV and
not a vcr in sight, no secomd chances. They were used as a backdrop to
Kraftwerks "Tour De France" track. In fact if any of you can put names to
the faces I would be delighted. I spotted Fausto Coppi and Jacques Anquetil
and possibly Bahamontes among the close ups. It is possible that more than
one Tour is used for source material. I don't think Anquetil rode in the
days when the 'couriers' had spare tyres wrapped around their torsos.

The images are free and may be used on BBS and cd archives etc. email is
always welcome especially with details of where I can get a copy of the
original film. Do what thou wilt.

Keep on Mackin'

Subject: [*] Window Monkey 1.1.2

Window Monkey adds background pictures or textures to any window in the
Finder. You can color-code your windows to see at a glance what they
contain, or use wild patterns just for fun. Wouldn't it be great if your
folder of "work stuff" had a background that looked like a legal pad? How
about some hearts for those folders full of love letters? With Window
Monkey installed, patterns aren't just for desktops anymore!

If that weren't enough, this program is useful, too. You can use the
handy Window Monkey menu to quickly go to any window in any application,
even if it's buried beneath many other windows. Window Monkey also
remembers recently used folders and lets you instantly jump to any open
or recently used folder from an Open or Save dialog box.

25 background patterns are included, and you can add as many as you wish
by simply pasting pictures into the control panel. Window Monkey makes a
great companion to other desktop enhancements such as Kaleidoscope. Try
it now to transform the appearance of your Macintosh!

Version 1.1.2 fixes conflicts with PopupFolder and Adobe Type Reunion, as
well as making other small improvements noted in the "About Window
Monkey" documentation
