Subject: [*] Akua Sweet (osax) V1.01

Both functions resolve an alias file with the ability to enter the
User/Password in a possible resulting server dialog.

Both take a "User" and a "Password" parameter. The only difference is
ResolveWith will only resolve one level deep and return an error code.
This may be useful if your only goal is to mount a remote volume to which
the alias points.

ResolveTo will further resolve any aliases pointed to by the alias. In
addition it will return the resultant file. This is useful if you need to
use the file you are resolving.

Both functions can take "" as a "User" parameter to indicate a guest
logon.

AkuaCopy
--------
+ Description
AkuaCopy results out of my big problems getting the Finder to copy some
damn files without getting "Not a reference" or "Not the right type" or
some other silly error. What a pain. copyFile from Jon's Commands is
cute, but it is neither RamDoubler friendly nor is it a very good
interface to not show any status while copying 200MB over a network.

Resolve&Copy
------------
Two scripts I wrote to demonstrate the use of these osaxen. Resolve just
resolves any aliases in its own folder. Resolve&Copy resolves any aliases
in a "Copy" folder within its own folder and copies them to its own
folder.

Subject: [*] Alias Arranger 1.1

Alias Arranger provides a quick, simple way to create aliases to files in
folders you often use, such as the Apple Menu or on the desktop. Several
preset favourite folders are supplied, to which you can add your own.
Simply drag a file onto Alias Arranger, choose a location for the alias,
and the alias is created there without your having to mess about with
Finder windows. You can also name an alias while creating it and choose a
generic suffix for all aliases created using Alias Arranger.

As well as a few minor fixes, version 1.1 allows you to quickly search a
folder or disk for unattached alias files, which you can then assign to
new targets or delete.

Subject: [*] cache-killer-12

Cache Killer is a small utility that deletes the Netscape Navigator,
Cyberdog, America Online, and/or Microsoft Internet Explorer disk caches.
It can be configured to delete the disk caches periodically or every time
it is run.

Deleting the web browser caches will regain valuable hard drive space.
Also, the system's Desktop files won't have to keep track of the hundreds
of individual cache files.

Cache Killer requires AppleScript, which is included with System 7.5 or later.

Cache Killer is freeware, and may be freely distributed and copied so long
as it is not modified and all Read Me documents are included with all
distributions. If you wish to include any version of Cache Killer on a
CD-ROM or floppy disk collection, you must get permission from the author.

Cache Killer was created by Scott Harralson. Further information on Cache
Killer can be found at http://web2.airmail.net/sdh/killer. Send any

Subject: [*] Gradekeeper 4.6

Gradekeeper 4.6 is now available!

Gradekeeper is a powerful, easy to use gradebook program for the
Macintosh.

Teachers can use semesters, trimesters, quarters, or six-week terms.
Assignments can be grouped into 10 categories. Grades can be computed
using total points or category weights. Any assignment for any student
can be excused, or the worst score in any category can be dropped. Final
exams can contribute to the term, semester, or final grade.

Gradekeeper is also very easy to use. With the default categories and
options, teachers can start entering students, assignments, and scores
right away. Changing assignments, student names, or scores, is as easy
as clicking and typing the new information. An extensive user's guide is
included.

Gradekeeper is distributed as shareware. It is not free. Teachers can
download a copy from my web site at: http://www.gradekeeper.com and
try it for 30 days without obligation. If they want to continue using
it, the registration fee is $20 for an individual license or $100 for a
site license.

Version 4.6 includes the following improvements:

+ You may now have different categories, weights, and grading options
for each term. Letter grade cutoffs and final exam options remain the
same for the entire school year. This gives you the flexibility to
change how you compute grades during the course of the school year.

+ There is now an Extra Credit category. This method of doing extra
credit assignments should work much better when computing grades using
category weights. See the User's Guide for specific examples of how this
affects your grade computation.

+ Sorting now affects only those students above the first blank row in
the gradebook. This allows you to move students to the bottom of the
gradebook when they transfer out of your class, without your next sort
command mixing them back in with your other students.

ictb Compiler is a Metrowerks CodeWarrior compiler plugin that compiles
text file descriptions of dialog item colour tables in to appropriate
resources (namely the 'ictb' resource) for use by the Dialog Manager in
displaying dialogs. Since ResEdit cannot handle creating ictb's and it is
not possible to write a ResEdit template for them, it makes sense to have a
CodeWarrior plugin compiler to create them. And with Metrowerks plugin
compiler technology and this compiler, you can add the text file directly
to your project and have it built automatically in the make process.

This file is available from <ftp://ftp.stairways.com/stairways/hacks>. For

Idea Keeper is a List, To Do, and Note Management Program for the

and manage to do lists. This program is very loosely based on the program
"Stickies". I have added to this program most of the features which I
thought "Stickies" should have but doesn't (including support for pictures,
multiple "sets" of notes, stylized text, images, file links, and more).

Idea Keeper works by allowing you to create individual "ideas" which are
stored in "topics". In Idea Keeper an idea has a name which is displayed in
a list, and a window in which you can store details. A topic is a set of
ideas. At any given time, Idea Keeper displays a single topic, allowing you
to quickly organize and view the ideas it contains. You can easily move
between topics, and copy or move individual ideas between topics.

The epic began in Star Battle I as Eagle-1, a member of the Alpha-1
squadron, was being pursued by an alien assailant. Episode 2 is shares
the perspective of Red Leader, the squadron leader, as he attempts to
save Eagle-1 from the assailant only to find that he may have been too

Now, in Episode 3, Red Leader must land on surface below in hopes of
finding Eagle-1 still alive in the wreckage. As he does, he is surprised

TNT Nag! 1.0
by Mark Tully & TNT Software

TNT Nag! is a quick & very easy to use reminder utility for the
Macintosh with many features found in commercial products.
Appointments can be set which you do not wish to forget about and Nag!
will remind you of them at the proper time. Custom sounds and pictures
can be chosen to appear with your message and messages can be grouped
and edited with ease and set to reoccur regularly; you will never miss
your favourite TV program again!
Nag! has a very small memory footprint and runs in the continuously in
the background. It is an application so it does not cause any extension
conflicts like some time managment products and whenever you need an
extra 200k of ram you can quit it.
As part of the Nag! package there is also a control panel called "Quick
Nag!". You can use this to set up hot keys for creating messages from
inside any application, making Nag! even quicker to use. Quick Nag! is
NOT required for Nag! to function.

System Requirements: System 7 or greater 200k free ram

Subject: [*] Navigator Enhancer 1.1 (internet utility)

Navigator Enhancer is an application that works with Netscape Navigator
3.x and under by adding a handy new feature. When Netscape designed its
first-generation browsers, it included a layer of directory buttons
pointing to services that varied depending on where and how you obtained
the browser. The only problem is that Netscape didn't give users a way to
edit the title and destinations of those buttons, and most of the time
the buttons remained hidden and useless. Navigator Enhancer allows you to
edit this information, so you can substitute your favorite Web pages and
services for the ones supplied by Netscape. A word of caution, though:
make sure you've exited your browser and made a backup copy of your
browser before using this application.

This version includes some minor bugfixes, a new registration process and
a slightly better interface.

This one is US$3 / DM 5,- shareware.

Subject: [*] NET/Mac2.3.63.sea.hqx

NET/Mac v2.3.63 was born...

For those who don't know NET/Mac... NET/Mac is the application that
supports TCP/IP over packet-radio, which means, that hamradio operators
can use NET/Mac for their wireless TCP/IP network...

In this version of NET/Mac the following mods/features were implemented:

- Fixes for longer Macintosh names
- 'smtp timer' now gives more info about the timerstatus

- NET/Mac does NOT support the new Buckmaster CD-ROM's HAMCALL
database yet... I am trying to convince Buckmaster that I need
the new data-encryption-method, but as of yet they are not ready
to release a description of the encoding-algorithm...
The old CD-ROM's remain fully supported...

The latest version of NET/Mac can be downloaded from my homepage:
http://www.caiw.nl/~adam

This version obsoletes all versions of info-mac/comm/inet/conn/radio-net-mac
in the Sumex-Aim.stanford.edu (and it's mirror-) archives.

It also replaces /pub/mac/_communicatie/_internet/radio_net_mac_23xx.hqx
on ftp.idg.nl.

The new NET/Mac has (hopefully) been uploaded to:

 - oak.oakland.edu, to the directory /pub/hamradio/mac/digital
 - ftp.ucsd.edu, to directory /hamradio/packet/tcpip/incoming.
If it's not there (anymore), then look at /hamradio/packet/tcpip/mac.
 - hamster.business.uwo.ca, to directory /pub/amsoft
 - wa2zkd mirrors UCSD's incoming on his Landline BBS. Ham's w/o ftp
   can call 716-544-1863 or 2645.

NOVA 2.5 for PPC and 68K

NOVA is stable Screen Saver environment that was designed to take up a
minimum amount of RAM (less than major competitors at least) and work
without the use of any nasty extensions that generally cause instability
in the MacOS. NOVA provides three main services to the user: (1)
eliminates the potential for phosphor screen burn-in, (2) provides
security for your system, and (3) provides entertainment for yourself and
those who work around you.

NOVA consists of two major components: the "NOVA Launcher", and the
"NOVA Settings" application. The Launcher is a faceless background
application that is always running, but not seen. It monitors you system
for inactivity, and according to user-definied criteria, launches
Saverlet applications. This Launcher is crucial to the NOVA system, but
only requires a small bit of RAM. The other piece to the system is the

San Francisco pictures

While I was in San Francisco for the MacWorld Expo I also did some
sightseeing in the days before the expo. I took some photographs and
when I got back home I noticed how good looking some of the pictures
are... So, I scanned half of the pictures and put these on my web site.
Then I adapted a few for use with the D=E9cor software as a background
picture for my desktop. I emailed some of the pictures to people I met
in SF and they asked for more and also found the pictures to be great!
So, here I am making some of the general pictures available to the

Cerberus Development announces Speed Demon (tm) 1.2, a shareware 3D car
racing game for the Power Macintosh.

Speed Demon boasts many cutting-edge features:

-Hi-resolution 3D texture mapped environments with a polygon-based 3D
engine and a sophisticated 3D sprite engine
-Continuous network play with up to five players over AppleTalk or TCP/IP
connections
-Single player competitions against artificially intelligent opponents
-Two play modes: a race across the country and a demolition derby
-Weaponry! Blow your opponents out of your way with missiles, guns,
photons, mines, oil shooters, and really big bowling balls
-3D positional sound effects
-16-track 44kHz stereo musical score
-Atmospheric effects such as fog and snow
-Direct support of the Thrustmaster Formula T2, FCS, WCS, and CH Products
devices.
-Ambient objects such as hot air balloons, construction sites, road
obstacles, wildlife, and airplanes

Race across the country on Interstate 90 in Speed Demon's track mode.
While you try to complete each of the states the game passes through within
your time limits, you'll have to deal with sharp curves, enemy cars
blocking your way, obstacles in the road, and annoyances such as incoming
missiles and land mines dropped by your opponents. Or try demolition derby
mode, and get thrown in an arena with five heavily-armed cars as you
attempt to be the last survivor.

The shareware download is limited to two players in network games, and
consists of one state on Interstate 90 and a demolition derby arena. Users
who register for $20 will be able to download five additional states, and
unlock five-player net games.

Screenshots are available at http://www.cerbdev.com/mac/speeddemon

Many users obtained a "pre-release" version of Speed Demon erroneously
labeled version 1.0. A major graphics bug was found in this version, and
users of it are encouraged to obtain version 1.2, which also includes
several gameplay improvements.

Speed Demon requires a Power Macintosh with 16MB of free RAM, and Open
Transport 1.1 (included with System 7.5.3 and up) or newer is required for
network games.

Requires 8-bit color

A grid is divided into zones by two lines which intersect at a
particular point. When you click on a point the computer will draw
a dot, the color red, blue, yellow, or green indicating which zone
that dot is in. If the point is on or very close to a line, you'll
get a white dot. The goal is to find the blackk dot, the one at the
intersetion of the two lines.

The number of guesses in the current game is displayed in the lower
left hand corner. Your running totals are displayed in the lower
right. Obviously fewer guesses is better, and if you're half-way
paying attention you should be able to get down to twelve or ten
guesses. If you can get consistently below ten, that's pretty good!
