About NT Services 1.2
The NT Services mobile administrator is a tool for MS Windows system
administrators, that need remote access to Windows servers and workstations.
With just a few clicks from (almost) any computer, PDA or smart phone
you get access to administrative tools like Event logs, Internet Information
Server, Services, Process handling (and more..) on the server/workstation.
NT Services was created for professionals working with server hosting/housing
and management of remote networks.
NT Services have been tested, and found working with these servers/workstations:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server.
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional.
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional.
- Microsoft Windows 2003 Server.
- Microsoft Windows NT 4 Server (with WMI installed)

NT Services was developed from the client side with Opera 7.x browsers,
and have been tested with the following web browsers:
NT Services may, or may not work in other browsers or web enabled PDA's/gadgets.

Functionality
The next page is an in-depth explanation of what NT Services can do.
All the tools are available when you have selected a workgroup/domain
and a computer/server.
The functionality description will go like this:
PC: Here is the pc description, describing how things
work..
PDA: Here go the pda and smart phone description..
ALL: Here go things that are common to all interface
versions..
Startup: |
PC:
The pc interface consists of three parts, left part is the “computer
browser”, listing workgroups/domains and computers visible
through the network to NT Services. Top part shows the tools menu,
you can use all of the tools once you have selected a computer
to work on. The third part is the main content part. To start
working you need to select a workgroup or domain from the left
part, click on a workgroup or domain and you’ll see all
available computers in that workgroup/domain. To work with any
of the computers they have to be configured to allow NT Services
access. (See the installation guide)
Once you have selected a computer you will get a quite detailed
information screen for the server, showing: uptime, disk status,
Operating system and more. Next to the service pack version there
is a link to “patchcheck”, click here to see what
OS hot fixes that are installed on the server. At the bottom there
are two buttons, “Export computer info to text file”
click here to export all of the listed information + the patch
check information to a text file for download. Next there is a
“Reboot computer” button, press this to reboot the
selected server.
PDA:
Once you get past the “splash” screen (redirects after
5 seconds, or click continue) you will get the option to select
a workgroup or domain (Groups).
Select one and you will get a list of computers available in that
group, click Groups on the bottom menu to return and select another
group. Select the computer you want to access, and you have the
tools menu. To work with any of the computers they have to be
configured to allow NT Services access (See the install guide).
ALL:
Once logged on, you will have access to, and see all the tools
available, IIS sites, IIS Backup, Task manager, Services, Event
Viewer, Server Information, Terminal Services and a reboot button.
On the PC interface there is an extra “Emulator”
button that will give you a preview of how the PocketPC interface
will look (set your text size to small for best preview). There
is also an upgrade function that will connect you to the Backbone
Software web site and look for any new versions available for
you to download.

IIS Sites: |
PC:
The Internet Information Server tool allows an easy way of simple
management of running sites.
On the overview window you see status, execute rights, and site
folder rights, you also see IP, port and host header for each
site. To start, stop, restart or pause any of the sites place
your mouse pointer over the current running status and the "change
status" window will appear.
On top of the list there are two links "Backup IIS configuration",
click this to create a backup of the current IIS configuration,
and "View Backups" that will show you a list of all
the backups for the IIS Server.
Click on details for more details about any of the listed sites.
In both views you have the option to start, stop, pause and restart
sites.
PDA:
Same as with the PC interface, but you get a bit less information
in the list view, the list shows site name and status, the status
icons are green arrows for running, red arrow for stopped, and
yellow for paused sites.
Click on either the site icon or the status icon for a site to
display the detailed view. In detailed view you get all info about
a site and you can start, stop, pause and restart sites.

IIS Backup |
PC:
See IIS Sites.
PDA:
Click on the IIS Backup tool, and you see a list of current backups
of the IIS metabase. Click on the “Backup now” link
to do backup the current IIS configuration.

Services |
PC:
The Services tool shows you all the system services installed on
the server. The table shows service name, application name, status,
startup option and service type. You can sort the service by clicking
on the column headers by Service, Name, Status or Startup option.
Next to the service name there is a green or red arrow showing
if the service is running or not, to Start, Stop or Restart a
service place your mouse pointer over the service status and the
status change popup will appear. Place your mouse pointer over
the service startup option to change the service startup option
to or from automatic, manual or disabled. If a service is disabled
you will not be able to start it without changing the startup
to manual or automatic.
To se more details about a service click on the service name
(like dependencies.) you can also change service status from the
detailed view.
PDA:
The Services tool shows you all the system services installed
on the server. The table shows service name, status and startup
option. Status is indicated by either a green (running) or red
(stopped) arrow. To see further details about each service click
either on the startup option or the status image.

Taskmanager |
PC:
The task manager shows you an image of the currently running applications
and processes on the server. The table shows Process id, Name, Memory
usage, User running the service and when it was started. CLICKING
ON ANY OF THE LINKS IN THE PID COLUMN WILL KILL AND SHUTDOWN THE
PROCESS WITH NO FURTHER WARNING.
PDA:
Shows you application/process name and memory usage of all running
applications and processes, click on the green arrow to see further
details about the task. From the detailed view you can stop the
process. CLICKING ON THE “STOP THIS PROCESS” LINK
WILL KILL AND SHUTDOWN THE PROCESS WITH NO FURTHER WARNING.

Event Viewer |
PC:
There you can read the computer event logs, all logs are listed
on top (default is the Application log). Click on details for each
event to se further details.
PDA:
First you select the event log you wish to view, then you get
the events in the log. To select another event log, click on "logs"
from the bottom menu.
ALL:
Last event is listed first.

Server information |
PC:
See startup.
PDA:
Select Server Information and you will get a list of information
retrieval links. Select one to view information. Select "Export
all to text file" to download a text file containing all
the server information.

Terminal Service |
PC:
Show you a list of current Terminal service sessions. A Disconnected
session can be reset, and a active session can be disconnected,
Very useful if you need remote consol connection to your server
and all sessions are taken/idling.
PDA:

Click to reboot the server, confirm the reboot and wait for the
